Facebook Notes was a feature that allowed users and Pages to publish longer-form written content directly on Facebook. Similar to a blog post, Notes supported formatting (headings, images, links, etc.) and were used for storytelling, announcements, or detailed updates. Note: Facebook officially deprecated the Notes feature for personal profiles in late 2020. It is no longer available for most users but may still be referenced in older strategies or archival content.

Where is it used?

Historically, Facebook Notes were used for:

  • Publishing articles, updates, or stories directly on Facebook

  • Long-form thought leadership content by influencers, creators, or brand Pages

  • Press releases, announcements, or detailed responses without linking to external blogs

  • Internal communication or employee storytelling for company Pages

Today, similar long-form content strategies have shifted to:

  • Facebook posts with extended captions

  • Linked content to external blogs or Medium

  • Newsletter platforms or LinkedIn Articles

When to use it?

When Facebook Notes were active, they were used:

  • To share in-depth content without a website or blog

  • For storytelling or personal essays

  • During campaigns that needed context or background stories

  • When aiming to improve organic reach with written content directly on the platform

Currently, you might use long-form post captions or Facebook Instant Articles (for publishers) to serve similar purposes.

How to use it?

(When the feature was available):

  1. Navigate to your profile or Page

  2. Click on the "More" tab and select "Notes"

  3. Click "Add Note"

  4. Add a title, body text, images, and links

  5. Format the content (headings, bold, etc.)

  6. Publish to share with your audience

Since Notes are now deprecated, users now:

  • Use standard post formats for storytelling

  • Redirect to external blog links or newsletters

  • Leverage video or carousel posts for layered content presentation

Why do we need it?

  • Allowed deeper engagement via long-form content directly on Facebook

  • Kept the audience within the platform (no need to visit external sites)

  • Supported storytelling, thought leadership, and detailed updates

  • Was useful for influencers and brands without a standalone blog

  • Offered searchable, formatted content accessible to followers
